Terms of Service

Last updated: March 31, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Skopeo, a Bible study application (“the Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What Skopeo is

Skopeo is a free Bible study tool designed to support expository study of Scripture. It provides access to Bible translations, commentaries, lexicons, cross-references, and other study resources, along with personal study organization tools such as notes and user context.

Skopeo is provided free of charge with no paid subscription tier, no advertisements, and no in-app purchases. There is no cost to create or maintain an account.

2. Your account

You must create an account to use Skopeo. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account.

You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, your personal data and user-generated content will be removed from our systems in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

3. Bible texts and resource licensing

All Bible translations, commentaries, lexicons, and other textual resources available in Skopeo are either in the public domain or are used with the express written permission of their rights holders. Skopeo does not include any copyrighted material without authorization.

License information for each resource is stored and available within the application. Resources are labeled with one of the following license types:

  • Public Domain — The text has no active copyright and may be freely used, quoted, and reproduced without restriction.
  • Permissive — The text is used with permission and may be quoted for personal study and non-commercial purposes. Specific attribution requirements are noted with each resource.
  • Restricted — The text is used under a specific license agreement. Commercial reproduction or redistribution requires separate written permission from the rights holder.

The King James Version (KJV) and the American Standard Version (ASV), among other historical translations, are in the public domain in the United States. Note that the KJV is subject to Crown copyright in the United Kingdom; users in the UK should consult the relevant Crown copyright guidance for reproduction outside of personal use.

The English Standard Version (ESV) is used under Crossway's standard digital permissions for non-commercial use. ESV text is not stored locally; it is retrieved live from the Crossway API at the time of reading. Scripture quotations are from the ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. ESV Text Edition: 2025. The ESV text may not be quoted in any publication made available to the public by a Creative Commons license. The ESV may not be translated in whole or in part into any other language. Used by permission. All rights reserved.

Strong's Concordance, the underlying Hebrew and Greek numbering system and definitions used in the Word Study feature, is in the public domain.

If you believe any content in Skopeo infringes on a copyright you hold, please contact us at the address below and we will investigate promptly.

4. Your content

You may create notes, user context entries, and study organization data within Skopeo (“User Content”). You retain full ownership of all User Content you create.

By using the Service, you grant Skopeo a limited license to store and process your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We do not use your notes, annotations, or personal study data for any other purpose — including advertising, research, training machine learning models, or sharing with third parties.

You are responsible for the content you save. Do not store sensitive personal information you would not want stored in a cloud application.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service, its underlying infrastructure, or another user's account.
  • Systematically scrape, harvest, or reproduce content from the Service for commercial redistribution without written permission.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.

6. Availability and changes

Skopeo is provided as a volunteer, independent project. We make no guarantee of continuous availability, uptime, or long-term maintenance of the Service. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time, with or without notice.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any change constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

8. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SKOPEO OR ITS DEVELOPER BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA OR LOSS OF ACCESS TO STUDY MATERIALS, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
